In honor of Giving Tuesday, all Saklan students participated in a project to spread joy within the Moraga community. Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement that aims to unleash the power of people to transform their communities and the world, and to build a world where generosity is part of everyday life. Using their creative talents our Preschool – 8th grade students crafted holiday greeting cards for our neighbors at Moraga Royale, a senior living community just around the corner from Saklan.  

The cards the students made reflected great effort and care, and they were very happily received by our neighbors!

Saklan’s Auction Committee is looking to acquire irresistible auction items for our upcoming Auction Fiesta! Here are a few specific things we are looking for:

• Vacation homes – Do you have or know someone with a vacation property, timeshare or other access to destination properties? 

• Event Tickets – Do you have season passes for the Giants, A’s, Warriors, theatre, symphony, or live music venues?

• Adventure Experiences – Hot Air Ballooning, Horseback Riding, and Cooking Classes are always popular items. 

• Wine – Do you belong to a winery and have a few extra bottles of your favorite Cab you would be willing to part with for a good cause?

• Gift Cards – Your unused gift cards can enhance a basket of themed goods.

• Parent Socials – Are you willing to host a dinner or party at your house?

We have roles big and small, including reaching out to potential donors (generally via email to local businesses you love to visit!), helping with decor, and setting up for the auction. Click here to see available volunteer positions.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our food drive in support of Monument Crisis Center. Together as a community we were able to supply a holiday meals to 15 families in need. Additionally, many more cans of soups and veggies are being donated to help others as well.

Special thanks to the Student Council for sorting and counting all the donated items.

A big thank you to the all students who helped decorate the boxes and to those who helped pack and load the boxes.

Thank you to the PA for their help with this project, especially to Erin Moorhead and Amy Perkins for providing the boxes to pack the items in, and to Lolo O’Keefe for delivering the boxes to Monument Crisis Center.

On Tuesday, 1st – 8th graders gathered with their family groups to talk about being compassionate and how they could show compassion to others. The students then worked together to write an 8-line poem containing a few specific words: Saklan, compassion, hot cocoa, and winter. The students also dressed up one of their family members as a winter character, using only newspaper. The families definitely showed their creativity!

All family groups then gathered on the sports court to share their poems (some groups acted them out) and winter characters. Among the characters presented were a snowflake, reindeer, elf, Frozen princess, and a Yeti!

One of our goals is to reach 100% participation from our current families. The chart below shows you where your student’s class is towards reaching this goal.

Not sure how much to contribute? We receive gifts anywhere from $10 to $10,000. Please know that whatever amount is meaningful and affordable for your family, Saklan is truly appreciative of your gift.

• Write your check made out to The Saklan School with “Annual Giving Fund” written on the Memo line and deliver it to our office.

Saklan’s social-emotional learning emphasis for November and December is compassionate. During these two months, all Saklan students are discussing what it means to be compassionate and looking for ways to show compassion with others. On Tuesday, November 29th, the first – eighth graders will meet with their family groups and take part in cross-grade level discussions and activities to gain an even greater understanding of being compassionate.

Save the date because we’re having a Fiesta! This adults-only event will be held at the Holy Trinity Cultural Center on Saturday, March 11th at 6:00 p.m.

The Saklan School’s Annual Auction is always a great community building event. Most faculty and staff attend, and proceeds from the auction are invested directly back into your children’s educational experiences, in and out of the classrooms. Book your babysitter today, you won’t want to miss this Fiesta!
